Are your services covered by OHIP?

While psychotherapy and social work are regulated health professions in Ontario, unfortunately they are not covered under OHIP. However, the majority of extended health benefits/employer benefits do cover psychotherapy and social work services. I encourage you to speak with your insurance provider about counselling services provided by a registered social worker and psychotherapist to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage.

If you do not have a health insurance plan, the CRA recognizes psychotherapy provided by registered social workers as an income tax deductible medical expense. Be sure to keep your receipts.
