Is online therapy effective?

At the onset of pandemic, I pivoted my practice in the hospital and community online. I was skeptical, even doubtful, at first if an online platform would meet the needs of the children and families I worked with. I discovered, with practice and training, that online therapy not only resulted in positive mental health outcomes when provided to youth in a structured and interactive format but was also highly desirably by many. To date, numerous studies* have shown that online treatment can be very effective for mental health issues and has some key benefits over traditional face-to-face therapy. This is not to say that it is for everyone; if for any reason I do not believe that virtual care is a good fit for your child and family I will let you know and do my best to connect you with an in-person therapy provider.
